Phantastic Phibsboro

We are at it again…Here is our second entry by a user from the DwellDown Community. We have to say thanks to everyone who has taken their time to write essays and send them in. It’s great to read about about why you love where you live. By offering these insights you keep our community on our toes and wanting to explore more Dublin Neighbourhoods This week we read about Phantastic Phibsboro!

Phibsboro, Dublin 7, perched on top of the hill peaking down into the Dublin valley from The North Side. We have views of the city and mountains to the south, on a sunny day you can see all the way down to The Sugar Loaf. These are the views I take in each morning as I walk past the new DIT campus being built at Grangegorman.

We have lived in Phibsboro for two years and are happy to say it offers a wonderful sense of community. We chose to live here for two reasons; proximity to Phoenix Park and easy access to Dublin City Centre. Phibsboro is one mile to the front gates of Phoenix Park on North Circular Road and about a twenty minute walk to The Spire on O’Connell Street.

Locals are lucky enough to be able to pick their parks and outdoor areas. They have The Blessington Street Basin on one side offering a great tree lined stroll and playground for kids, as well as the actual Basin to sit and feed ducks. You can choose to walk up into Cabra to the the Canal for a jog or bike ride. Or you could spend the entire day in Phoenix park heading to the Zoo, going for walk, biking or even a wave to Michael D.

Phibsboro has incredible access to the city, offering all three major options : LUAS, Dublin Bikes and Dublin Bus (46A.) If you choose you can even take quick stroll to Capel Street for food and O’Connell Street for a bit of history. If you are feeling a more adventurous and have need to stretch the legs, head across the river up into The Liberties, Temple Bar or Grafton Street. Just a heads up, choosing to walk back is a bit more strenuous, getting back up the hill is no joke!

No worries about food shopping. Your choice of Tesco or Lidl. Looking for that strong cup of coffee to get your going in the morning, White Moose or 2BoysBrew. How about watching a bit of sport, a beer and possibly eating the best pizza in Dublin at The Back Page? Then grabbing a pint the put the feet up and relax at the end of the day, The Barbers, Two Guns, Mohans Hut, Phibsboro Lounge and soon to be re-opened and totally redesigned is John Doyle’s Corner.

Coming to a close, I would say it would be remiss of me not to mention Dublin's beloved Dalymount Park, home of Bohemian FC . For over 100yrs Dublin's finest soccer team has been keeping crowds entertained on Friday nights and offering the locals something to cheer about. The club has also started plenty of local initiatives to help Phibsboros local community. #GoBohs

All in all, Phibsboro has everything we were looking for. It has a strong community, with real people and feel of Old Dublin meeting New. More than enough parks to keep you busy and great cafe’s and bars to keep your social calendar filled.
