5 Things every Dubliner needs to do before Summer Ends

What a summer it’s been. Could the sun have shined any brighter? We wanted to remind you of 5 things that every Dubliner NEEDS to do before the summer ends…

The days have been filled with sun, warmth and smiles, possibly sliding into place a new reality of island life in the North Atlantic. The summer of 2018 has been one to remember and has only helped us fall deeper in love with the city of Dublin and the people that call it home.

We believe at DwellDown (https://www.dwelldown.com) no summer is complete until you have checked these 5 Dublin activities off your “Summer To Do List.” We picked 5 popular places around our beloved city of Dublin covering the North, South and City Centre.

Howth Walk

The only surprise here is that you probably haven’t done this yet! Howth is easily assessable with a car or the DART. There is parking available in the centre of the village and the DART station is directly next to the car park. There are two options to hike, a shorter or longer distance, the later will take about 2.5 hrs.

There are several positives about this hike :

  1. Easy to get too
  2. Clear hiking path
  3. On a warm day…scurry down the side of the hill and take a dip into the ocean
  4. Views are unreal
  5. When finished, walk off the trail and into the Dog House for a pint

Dollymount Strand (Dollyer)

Just like the Howth Cliff walk, “Dollyer” is only a few minutes walk from the Clontarf DART station. A few strides onto the path and your sandles will be in your hands and the sand between the toes. This place is great to sit back and chill or stretch the legs and head for a walk when the tide is coming in. Nothing like the ocean water on the feet. There’s a wooden bridge that connects you to Bull Island which also contributes to the feeling of escaping the city. You will have great views of the Poolbeg Chimneys. Dollyer is a fantastic place to be and view Dublin to the south as the sun begins to set.
A reminder… don’t forget your SPF!

Morning run, Dollymount Strand, Dublin.

**Phoenix Park **

Phoenix Park seems to make its way onto just about every blog we write...It’s clear to see why. Dublin is a very lucky to city to have a such a beautiful park so easily assessable by bike, bus or foot. Acres upon acres of fields and running paths offer a variety of sites to keep you busy. The list below will keep your day full of interesting and fun things to do in the park.

  3. Magazine Fort
  4. Have to check out the wild deer!
  5. And always a wonderful place for a picnic

The Forty Foot

Summer, summer tiiiiime… and outdoor swimming go hand and hand or is it more peanut butter and jelly? Whatever it is, it sure is good. There are plenty of places to go ocean swimming around Dublin. We chose the Forty Foot because it is simply the business. You can take the DART right into Sandycove and stroll on over. This wonder is open all year round and the local’s are known to be taking dips no matter the weather or time of year. Once you finish your dip and feel revived, head into town and get a bite, coffee or pint. In all honesty, this is a “Must Do.”

The Big Grill

This is a fun packed weekend that can fit in your itinerary whether you’re on parent duty or heading out with friends. There is enough quality food, drink and entertainment keep you going for hours. The lineup of chefs and restaurants reads like a who’s who in the Dublin food scene. Not to be outdone, the beer and spirits crowd is offering only the finest of Irish craft brews and gins. If you are into food and tasty drinks, this is money well spent, and if you aren’t the biggest eater… no worries, there’s live music and DJ’s that will keep your feet tapping and ears tuned in. And it’s all held in beautiful Herbert Park, located right in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
